TIPS FOR SAFE RIDING

For a safe and enjoyable bike tour, especially in varied terrains like those found in Croatia, here are essential security measures to follow:

  • Check tire condition and pressure, brake functionality, chain lubrication, and ensure gears shift smoothly.
  • Make sure wheels are secured and spokes are intact.
  • Helmet: A properly fitted helmet is a must for all riders.
  • High-Visibility Clothing: Bright colors or reflective gear improve visibility, especially in low light.
  • Gloves: Gloves help with grip and reduce injuries in case of falls.
  • Pads: Consider knee and elbow pads for extra protection.
  • Lights and Reflectors: Equip both front and rear lights and reflectors for rides at dawn, dusk, or night.
  • Bell or Horn: Helps alert pedestrians and other cyclists.
  • Repair Kit: Even though the Bike Guide carries essential tool, spare parts and air pump, we recomend you to bring your bike specific tools and a spare tube.
  • Ensure your bicycle is in a safe and roadworthy condition.
  • We will ride on designated bike paths where available.
  • Please obey traffic signals, signs, and always ride as close to the right edge of the road.
  • For your safety and the safety of others: Cyclists must ride in a single file line.
  • When crossing the road: If a pedestrian crossing is marked but there is no designated bike crossing, cyclists must dismount and push their bikes across as pedestrians would.
  • Signal turns, stops, or lane changes to other riders and vehicles.
  • If riding in a group, maintain communication about hazards, stops, or pace changes.
  • Be cautious of car doors opening, pedestrians, and wildlife.
  • Keep a safe distance from vehicles and other cyclists.
  • Carry enough water for the entire ride, especially in warmer weather.
  • We always include rest stops on long tours to prevent fatigue.
  • Inform your Bike guide before tour starts about any serious medical condition you have. Don’t forget to take your daily medicines with you on a tour.
  • Carry a charged phone, personal identification, and emergency contact information.
  • When riding in group, Bike Guides will ride in front and at the end to keep the group together.
  • On main roads, to ease the overtake of faster vehicles, we suggest you to make smaller groups of 3-5 riders with sufficient distance 50-100 m to another groups.
  • Inform the Bike Guide if you need to stop.
